Make organic beeswax lip balm with me

Every year I try and make a batch of Farmhouse on Boone's Organic Peppermint Cocoa lip balm. I didn't get around to it in 2023 so I am very excited to get a new batch going. My last batch filled about 20 tubes and lasted 18 months. This is my husband's favourite and the peppermint cocoa flavour is such a winner. I cut the recipe in half this time and filled nine tubes to the brim.

These make great Christmas presents and stocking stuffers or even teacher gifts bundled with a gift card or handwritten letter. Using organic ingredients not only improves the quality of the lip balm but gives you peace of mind that your lip balm is one less thing adding up exposure to questionable ingredients that can irritate skin. Small easy swaps add up over time. I am not that concerned over the plastic tube as beeswax is inert, I opt for BPA free/non toxic and the lip balm has never really melted even in school bags on warm days but paper tubes are a great way to make it even safer.

My eldest daughter swore off store lip balms after having a reaction to the nivea chapstick she had been using with no problem since we ran out of homemade earlier this year. They must've changed an ingredient or supplier or something. So she is very keen for a new batch of these!

If you use Amazon, here are affiliate links to what I use to make these:

- lip balm tubes; plastic or paper

- organic beeswax

pipettes or droppers

I get these ingredients from a health food store and Eco Modern Essentials EO

- organic cocoa butter

- Peppermint essential oil

- organic coconut oil

I use just glass mixing bowls and a saucepan to melt the ingredients together but Lisa from Farmhouse on Boone says in her blog you can use a double boiler too. Head over to her blog using the link above to get the quantities and instructions. It really is so easy and turns out so good.

I labelled my last batch with mint green washi tape. This year I am going to use gold. If you are gifting these it is a good idea to include a label and an ingredient list.

My husband takes a handful of these and they live in his office, coat pockets and key tray. My girls each take one in their 'Always Be Prepared' purses that live in their school bags. Speaking of Girl Guides, this might be a good item to make for Jamboree fundraising!

Thank you for sharing this moment in the kitchen with me. These are the good old days in the making.
